Perc & Soil Testing

Soil and percolation testing that tells you what a property can support before you build or buy.

Overview

Perc & Soil Testing

A percolation test measures how quickly water is absorbed by the soil, while test pits reveal soil layers and the depth to seasonal high groundwater. Together, these results determine whether a site can support a septic system, what type is permitted and how large it must be.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is a perc rate?

It is the time, in minutes, for water in a test hole to drop one inch. It is used to size the drain field.

Does a perc test require a health official to be present?

Requirements vary by jurisdiction. Many require a witnessed test; we schedule accordingly.

What if the soil fails?

A failed test does not always mean a site cannot be developed. Alternative systems such as raised mounds may be permitted. We review the options with you.
